Wireless Vehicle Detectors

Wireless Vehicle Detector Diagram

Wireless vehicle detectors are a fantastic way to allow passage through a gate or detect the presence of a vehicle without going through the hassle of cutting into concrete to install underground loop detectors. These surface-mounted detectors wire directly to the opener without the hassle of ground loops. Most wireless vehicle detectors are able to ignore pedestrian traffic and only sense vehicles. This is great for security gates, parking lots, banks, and pharmacies where only vehicular traffic is meant to be detected. No pedestrian walking in the sensor's path should trigger a vehicular presence.

Most wireless vehicle detectors have multiple settings where the user can adjust the sensitivity. It's important to calibrate the sensitivity for both pedestrians and the range where the vehicles will travel. Wireless vehicle detectors operate at the ultrasonic frequency of 56 KHz. They also utilize a microwave frequency of 24 GHz, which is also known as the K-Band frequency. The microwave frequency can reach up to 18 ft. (5.5 m) while the ultrasonic extends to 3 ft. (1 m).

Installation of wireless vehicle detectors require no trained professionals. The non-invasive setup keeps traffic uninterrupted, allowing normal traffic flow during the process. Calibration for sensitivity requires only one touch, and the vehicle detectors show visual indicators for an easy setup. Mounting can be done in minutes on a mini post. The post has pre-drilled holes allowing for instant installation with the included screws with the vehicle sensor.

Wireless vehicle detectors come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Whichever is best for you depends on the application it will be used for. For example, you might choose the Hercules motion detector for industrial applications where it can be mounted above a garage door. Another example would be the OVS vehicle presence sensor being used for a sliding gate system where you have room to install the detector horizontal to the vehicle traffic.
